Details

Thomas was born on the 26th of January in 1857 in Hurtle Vale, Adelaide SA.

From Mannings Place Names of Sth Aust: HURTLE VALE - east of McLaren Vale
was 'visited by a party of gentlemen, including David McLaren, and named
after the first Commissioner of Crown Lands, James Hurtle Fisher.' Its
Aboriginal name was kowie-munilla. The name was applied to a subdivision of
section 501, Hundred of Noarlunga, when John Wauchope cut it up into 16
allotments circa 1853. Bailliere's South Australian Gazetteer of 1866 simply says "Hurtle Vale, County Hindmarsh, is the name given to an alluvial flat running down to a tea-tree scrub swamp, and lying near the township of Reynella. Much of this flat is taken up for cultivation purposes.

He married Catherine Jane Teresa Eaves in 1881 in Victoria. She was born on the 19th July 1865, (daughter of William Walking/Wilking Eaves and Louisa Reit).

In 1903, the Victorian Electorial Roll lists them as living in Mandurang (near Bendigo). Thomas was listed as a farmer, Catherine as home duties.
