William's father was Charles, who arrived in South Australia on "The Surge"" in 1853 with his brother Joseph.

William was born 13 Jan 1877 in Baillieston, Victoria. He married Olive Myrtle Wishart, married 11th Dec 1907 in Wooroloo W.A., b. 17 Dec 1887 in Penrice, SA, (daughter of Thomas Wishart and Fanny Plush) .

William served in WW1, his unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A19 Afric on 5 January 1916. He was a Gunner in the 2nd Field Artillery. He returned to Australia 26 September 1917.

Olive died 15 Dec 1923 in Wooroloo W.A, buried in Wooroloo W.A.

William died 12 Apr 1946 in Wooroloo W.A. Hgrave (no.15) at Wooroloo Cemetary has the following inscription:
